Pour-Over Starter Kit: Grinder + Kettle + Dripper (3 Budgets)
Three ways to buy a first pour-over setup as separate pieces: one grinder, one kettle, and one dripper. Nobody on these maker pages was selling the three as a single box. Each total below is addition of list prices, not a bundle discount.
Longer notes on the grinders are in the budget burr grinder comparison. Longer notes on the kettles are in the gooseneck kettle comparison.

What the three budgets are
The cutoff is the sum of U.S. prices printed on the makers’ own pages that day. Shipping, tax, filters after any starter pack, and a mug or server are not in the sums. A Kalita Wave price is not in the sums: this check did not find a Kalita manufacturer page with a U.S. dollar list price.
- Under $200, using variants the product data marked available: OXO grinder, Hario stovetop kettle, Melitta plastic cone. Sum $174.98. A Hario plastic V60 in white or red instead of the Melitta cone makes $182.99.
- Just over $200: the same OXO grinder, a Fellow stovetop kettle with a thermometer, and the Hario plastic V60 in white or red. Sum $212.94.
- Higher, still three separate parts: Baratza Encore, the same Fellow kettle, and the same Hario plastic V60. Sum $252.90.
The dripper does not get more expensive in budget 3. The extra money is the grinder. Hario’s ceramic V60 01 costs more than the plastic 02 and is listed for fewer cups. That swap is noted below. It is not treated as an upgrade in size.
Budget 1: under $200
OXO Brew Conical Burr Coffee Grinder at $109.99, plus the Hario V60 Buono stovetop kettle on the page titled 1L at $60.00, plus the Melitta 1-cup plastic brew cone at $4.99. Sum: $174.98. Sources, all checked October 2, 2026: oxo.com conical burr grinder, hario-usa.com Buono “1L”, shoponline.melitta.com 1-cup brew cone.
- Grinder: the OXO page’s price was $109.99. It is an electric hopper grinder. Burr diameter was not on the price fetch used here, so it is omitted. The grinder comparison cites the rest of that page, including a 12 oz hopper line and a booklet that maps pour-over to settings 6–10.
- Kettle: $60.00. Item number VKBR-100-HSV. Size on that page: W295×D144×H130 mm. Capacity line: practical capacity 600 milliliters. Body and lid stainless steel; handle and lid knob phenol resin. Made in Japan. The product data listed that variant as available. The page HTML also contains a “Sold out” badge element, which many themes print even when another badge is the one shown. Check the cart. The details text does not mention a thermometer.
- The other Hario stovetop page, titled 1.2L, was $65.00 the same day, practical capacity 800 milliliters, item VKB-120HSV. Using it instead of the $60 kettle adds $5.00 to this sum ($179.98 with the Melitta cone). hario-usa.com Buono “1.2L”. The U.S. text fetched that day does not say induction.
- Dripper: Melitta 1-Cup Pour-Over Coffee Brew Cone, black, $4.99. Product data listed it available. Dimensions on that page: 5 in W, 4.5 in D, 4 in H. The page says it uses #2 or #4 cone filters, is BPA free, is top-rack dishwasher safe, and includes a start-up supply of #2 filters. “1-cup” is Melitta’s title. The page does not define a cup in milliliters.
Swap the Melitta cone for a Hario V60 plastic 02 in white or red and the sum is $109.99 + $60.00 + $13.00 = $182.99. Clear is $14.00, which would make $183.99. The plastic 02 page lists capacity 1–4 cups, size W137×D116×H102 mm, and, for the clear dripper, acrylonitrile-styrene resin. It does not give a separate resin name for white and red. Made in Japan. Product numbers VD-02W, VD-02R, and VD-02T. White, red, and clear were marked available in the product data. Source: hario-usa.com V60 plastic 02, checked October 2, 2026.
A hand-grinder path can also land under $200, with a stock catch. Timemore’s Chestnut C3 Jet Black page listed Standard at $79.00 and marked that variant unavailable. The variant marked available was “Espresso Grind Dial + Pull to Fold Handle” at $109.00. That $109.00 plus the $60.00 kettle plus the $13.00 white or red V60 is $182.00. The same page’s highlights say 38 mm stainless steel burrs, a dial from 0 to 90 clicks, and that it grinds up to 30 g. Those are Timemore’s lines, not a measured dose from this site. A different Timemore URL, the C3 series page, also showed Standard at $79.00 and said it is a sample page and that an order from that link will not be fulfilled. Do not use the series URL as a checkout. Source: timemore.com C3 Jet Black and timemore.com C3 series, checked October 2, 2026.
Fits someone who wants the lowest sum of available list prices and will heat the kettle on a burner. The $60 kettle’s pourable figure is 600 ml, not a full liter, and the page does not list a thermometer. Skip this set if you need a temperature on the kettle. That is budget 2.
Budget 2: thermometer kettle, same grinder class
OXO at $109.99, plus the Fellow Stagg Pour-Over Kettle at $89.95, plus the Hario plastic V60 02 in white or red at $13.00. Sum: $212.94. Clear plastic at $14.00 would make $213.94.
- Kettle price: $89.95. Matte black was marked available. Matte white and polished steel were marked unavailable. The product details say gas and electric range compatible, 1.0 liter boiling capacity, and a stainless steel body. The highlights on that page describe a built-in thermometer. They do not print a degree range, so this article does not invent one. The details line says gas and electric. It does not say induction. Source: fellowproducts.com Stagg Pour-Over Kettle, checked October 2, 2026. The kettle comparison cites Fellow’s help pages for induction and for weight. Those help pages were not re-fetched for this article.
- Grinder and dripper: same OXO price and same plastic V60 02 as in budget 1. The dripper is still the $13.00 cone (white or red), listed at 1–4 cups.
Against budget 1’s $174.98, this sum is $37.96 higher if you compare it with the Melitta cone version ($212.94 − $174.98), or $29.95 higher if you compare it with the V60 version of budget 1 ($212.94 − $182.99). The kettle is the change: $89.95 versus $60.00, and a 1.0 liter boiling-capacity line versus a 600 milliliter practical-capacity line. Those capacity lines are not the same kind of measurement. Do not subtract them and call the difference a test.
Fits someone who wants a thermometer on a gooseneck and will stay with the OXO hopper grinder. Skip it if the cap is $200. This sum is over that cap.
Budget 3: more of the money in the grinder
Baratza Encore at $149.95, plus the Fellow Stagg at $89.95, plus the Hario plastic V60 02 in white or red at $13.00. Sum: $252.90. Sources for the new price: baratza.com Encore (ZCG485), checked October 2, 2026. The page’s price field was $149.95. Burr size, hopper grams, and wattage are not repeated here. The grinder comparison cites Baratza’s March 2020 specification sheet for those. This article did not open a newer sheet.
The dripper is the same $13.00 plastic 02 as in budget 2. The difference from budget 2 is $149.95 − $109.99 = $39.96 on the grinder list prices, and $252.90 − $212.94 = $39.96 on the sums. You are not buying a larger cone.
Hario’s ceramic V60 01, classic colors, was $27.50 for white or red, size W119×D100×H82 mm, capacity 1–2 cups, porcelain, made in Japan. Product numbers VDC-01-W and VDCR-01-R. Product data listed both available. Source: hario-usa.com V60 ceramic 01, checked October 2, 2026. Swapping it in for the plastic 02 adds $14.50 ($27.50 − $13.00) and the listed cup range gets smaller (1–2 cups versus 1–4 cups). A ceramic 02 page was not found at the matching Hario USA path that day (that URL returned not found). This budget does not assume a larger ceramic cone exists at a price that was not on a page.
Fits someone who wants the Encore’s list price in the set and a thermometer kettle. Skip it if the OXO price is enough grinder. This page did not grind on either machine.
Above these three, not a fourth budget
- Fellow Opus 2, black, $199.95, marked available. Several wood-lid colorways were $249.95. Replacing the Encore with the $199.95 Opus 2, and keeping the Stagg at $89.95 and the plastic V60 at $13.00, sums to $302.90. Source: fellowproducts.com Opus 2, checked October 2, 2026. Capacity, wattage, and the stepless-versus-48-settings conflict are in the grinder comparison.
- Hario’s electric Buono was $95.00, maximum 800 milliliters, 1000 W, AC 120 V, 60 Hz. The product text describes cordless auto-off. It does not describe a temperature you set. Item EVKB-80U-HSV. Source: hario-usa.com Buono Electric, checked October 2, 2026. Putting it in budget 2 in place of the Stagg ($95.00 instead of $89.95) would change the sum by $5.05 and drop the thermometer the budget was built around.
- Melitta’s Signature Series 1-cup porcelain pour-over, white, was $19.99. The page says porcelain, #4 filters, a starter pack of those filters, and top-rack dishwasher safe. It does not give a width or a cup in milliliters. Source: shoponline.melitta.com Signature Series porcelain, checked October 2, 2026. It is $15.00 more than the $4.99 plastic cone and still a 1-cup title, not the Hario 02’s 1–4 cup line.
How to choose without a test
- Cap near $175 of list prices, and a plug-in hopper grinder is fine: budget 1 at $174.98 with the Melitta cone, or $182.99 with the Hario plastic 02.
- No plug, and you can accept the Timemore variant that was actually marked available: $109.00 grinder + $60.00 kettle + $13.00 V60 = $182.00. The $79.00 Standard variant was listed and marked unavailable. The series page that also shows $79.00 says not to buy from that link.
- A thermometer on the kettle: budget 2 at $212.94. The product page says gas and electric. It does not say induction.
- Pay more for the Encore and keep the same kettle and the same plastic dripper: budget 3 at $252.90.
- Do not read the ceramic 01’s higher price as a bigger brewer. The page says 1–2 cups. The plastic 02 page says 1–4 cups, at a lower price.
None of that is a taste ranking. Flow, grind uniformity, and how close a thermometer sits to the water were not measured here.
What to check on the listing
- The three prices in the carts, then add them yourself. These sums are not a code a store will ring up.
- Which Timemore variant is selected. Standard was $79.00 and unavailable. The available Jet Black variant that day was $109.00. The series URL is a sample page.
- Hario plastic color. White and red were $13.00. Clear was $14.00.
- Practical capacity on the Hario kettle versus the “1L” title. The capacity line is 600 milliliters.
- Filters. The Melitta plastic cone page says a start-up supply of #2 filters is included. It does not price the next box. That next box is not in the sums.
